I noticed there wasn't that much wax cloth as some may think. People have been complaining, via my tumblr posts, about African fashion beeing exclusively about wax prints.. A lot of it is, indeed, to recall traditional outfits but this fashion week might remind those people that the designers also know how to manipulate "simpler" fabrics and make them their very own.
Kola Kuddus brillantly opened up for our men. This is what can happen when traditional clothing meets formal clothing.
It was all about the colour orange and white circles upon black at Kaveke's show.
NY-based Loza Maléhombho brought the Bedouins to the catwalk. And she has been named Emerging Designer of the Year !
How about a quick jump to the future, with celebrities' dearest Laquan Smith who was named Young Designer of th Year ?
It is summer already for the folks at David David ! They presented basic cut pieces, highlightened by a bright and funky palette.
Moroccan Amine Bendriouich provided a laid-back, casual show as well with the collection for his eponymous label Amine Bendriouich Couture & BS (yes, the "BS" is for what you think it is). I really dig his edgy and unique universe, and we can still notice the oriental influence behind the long large shirts or the sirwal shorts. Peep British model Dudley O'Shaughnessy, Chris Brown's lookalike from Rihanna's "We Found Love" video; he was named Male Model of the Year.
