This year Arise Magazine Fashion Week's finale was about honoring the 22 years of work of Ghanaian-descendant British couturier Ozwald Boateng.

AMFW - Part III
Another show that I loved was Maki Oh's, by Amaka Osakwe. The collection is refreshing and very chic at the same time, with the use of many materials such as velvet, lace or silk.
As a matter of fact, it won the Designer of the Year Award. Well deserved.

AMFW - Part II
Aisha Obuobi presented, Xutra, the new collection for her now established label, Christie Brown. They gave the definition of "xutra", which is "a forced control in structure emphasizing sophistication and complexity" and "an honest, back-to-basics representation of function and fashion". What more can I say !
AMFW - Part I
The 2012 edition of the Arise Magazine Fashion Week kept its promises in Lagos, with beautiful shows from 77 designers more talented than one another.
I noticed there wasn't that much wax cloth as some may think. People have been complaining, via my tumblr posts, about African fashion beeing exclusively about wax prints.. A lot of it is, indeed, to recall traditional outfits but this fashion week might remind those people that the designers also know how to manipulate "simpler" fabrics and make them their very own.

EAT - Good food for our eyes
I am going to feature what's been going on at this year's Arise Magazine Fashion Week. But I had to separate this show from the others; definitely my favorite: the Ejiro Amos Tafiri show.

Mara Hoffman
New Yorker Mara Hoffman shows off the lookbook for her Resort Swim 2012 collection, with Sudanese Nykhor Paul.
The designer is used to work with bold graphic prints, inspired by a lot of travelling as well as nature itself. The result is colourful, filmy, Indian or Native American-ish collections. And this one is no exception.
That editorial: Feminine Mystique

That Model
Let me introduce you to Salieu Jalloh, or should I say "re-introduce" because you might have seen his face on many editorials, ad campaigns, runways or on BET's reality show Model City (where I discovered him).

"Africa's definition of global luxury"
I haven't checked out Jewel By Lisa in a minute. This is their Autumn/Winter 2012 collection, which they presented during the Arise Fashion Week in Lagos, back in March. The title says everything about Ms Lisa Folawiyo's work; she is just too high-fashioned.
Make sure you visit the website and discover the "Global Minimalism Collection 2011" (another name for Summer Collection I believe). Marvelous.
BKFW '11
Take a look at Boxing Kitten's Fall/Winter collection for this year 2011, modeled by the beautiful Naima Mora (what a nice first name, isn't it ? :p), and photographed by the talented Kwesi Abbensetts.
